Mothering Our Grief

  • The Bunker SLO 810 Orcutt Rd San Luis Obispo United States (map)

Enormous grief exists within motherhood. And yet in our grief phobic, grief illiterate society, we make far more room to celebrate rather than to mourn even though both are inherent in change, moving from the familiar to the unfamiliar. Come join a conversation about making room for grief, meeting it with the compassion and patience of a loving mother. This evening we will be a talk about grief rather than engaging in an intentional experience of processing grief. There will be sharing about grief as well as an opportunity to engage in dialogue together. @donna.helete www.donnahelete.com Donna Helete is a relationship tender, mentor, community builder, and non-profit leader. She became a single mother to her two adult children 9 years ago when her husband died. Her real life credentials and experience with community grief rituals informed her career shift into grief work which includes two years as a hospice bereavement counselor, paying forward the support she once received. Through her experience, she learned there's a regenerative nature to grief which allows for transformational growth after loss. She is honored to support people making space for grief, love, death, and vibrant living. She embraces a broad definition of grief in her work and provides one-on-one grief counseling sessions as well as other offerings which can be found on her website donnahelete.com. You can contact her at donnahelete@gmail.com. She can also be found each morning on her back deck sipping a strong, hot cup of coffee, listening to birdsong and hoping fox pays a visit.
