EARTH_NEGLECTED…an inverse story affecting our universe. It is personal. It is global. It is scary. It is happening. It is anthropogenic climate change.
My digital negatives are dramatic seascapes of the glorious Pacific Ocean and sky that reigns above Ocean Beach, the San Francisco neighborhood I call home. It is heartbreaking to think that our very existence is killing our planet. I am emotionally processing this reality by appreciating nature’s beauty, documenting nature’s beauty and then turning it upside down and backwards. It’s how I feel. It is like seeing the world through a 4x5 camera’s ground glass for the first time. A familiar scene that does not look right until we train our brain to see it differently. The saturated abstract landscapes I create are familiar but hauntingly so.
We are destroying my son’s future with denial, greed, ignorance and disrespect. Admittedly, the very mobile device I use to create these images has contributed to the consequences of global warming. I am not innocent. I am part of the problem, but I will express my worry, make changes, communicate to others and continue the conversation, not with blame, but with concern, awareness, science and optimism.
EARTH_NEGLECTED is an abstract love story and we all are responsible for writing its conclusion.
