Trash
Trash

Recycled material collage
Comprised of woven clippings of San Luis Obispo landscapes from magazines and overproduced calendars pasted onto brown paper bags and wood board and a frame destined for the garbage, this work is a reconciliation of making art amidst the guilt of the desire to have a fruitful and concrete creative process whilst not creating more waste in a world of planned obsolescence and discardable objects. While there is always value in the creative process, at what point are we doing more harm than good if we generate more waste than we do thought provoking dialogue through the pieces we conceive? Using what you already have to make art is both a delightful challenge and a harrowing reminder that anything we could possibly need is already in existence— most of the time, we need not more supplies to evoke what we desire to from a work. Use trash to create art, don’t use art to create trash.
